Another appointment today, this one with some decisions being made. The latest estimated fetal weight puts Abbott at over 10 pounds! Awesome. Obviously there is room for some error in this estimate, but the error is not usually more than 1 pound so that still means that I can grow a big baby! With this new estimate in my head, we went ahead and scheduled a C-section for this Friday, March 28th, at 2:00pm. Exciting news.....not the way I planned to have a baby, but exciting still! I just can't wait to meet him! The ultrasound tech said she say some fuzz on his head....how much fuzz, we're not sure, but it looks as though he's not going to be completely bald.
I will be working about half a day on Thursday and then that's it until I return to work. That's about it.....we will have pictures up as soon as possible!
Thanks for all the well-wishes and prayers!

Baby Abbott update (AKA most stubborn baby EVER)
I had yet another doctor appointment this morning and here is the scoop: I have made little if any progress in the whole dilation game. My cervix is what the doctor keeps calling "unfavorable" meaning that if she were to induce labor, I would have a rough go and probably not be able to deliver a baby and end up with a c-section anyway. I am currently 39 weeks pregnant which does not make me "full term" yet so the plan is to wait another week and see what happens then. At my next appointment, I am scheduled to have another ultrasound to estimate his weight and see how giant they think he might be. This will help us decide on whether to go ahead and schedule a c-section or to wait and go overdue and see if my cervix decides to become favorable. I have a whole week to decide or go into labor on my own. I have been trying many of the old wives' tales to no avail.....which, according to the several nurses I have asked as well as my research, are just that: old wives' tales. THEY DON'T WORK.
You may ask,"Kelly, aren't you a little frustrated?" The answer would be, "Yes, I am."
You also may ask, "Kelly, aren't you tired of people asking you if you're sure there is only one baby in your belly?" The answer would be, "Yes, I am."
And you may ask, "Kelly, do you wish that you could once again bend over easily to tie your own shoes?" Again, the answer would be, "Yes, I am."
Regarding those pressing and important questions, I have to say that there are women who are in much worse shape than I am at 39 weeks pregnant. I am grateful that the baby and I are both healthy and that I can still be up and around at this point, doing the things that need to get done. And despite all the frustrations that I feel right now, at the end of this I am going to meet a beautiful baby boy named Abbott and I will love him....regardless of how he makes his grand entrance into this world. :)

Our first (uneventful) trip to the hospital
Well, yesterday was fun. I was at work all day and had been noticing that Abbott wasn't being quite as active as he usually is and just about the time I would start to get a little nervous, he would move. I was also having some abdominal cramping so just to be safe, I called my doctor. She suggested that I go ahead to the hospital for some monitoring just to be safe. Surprisingly calm, I headed to the hospital and called Ryan and told him the update and he met me there. Nurse Brenda got me all hooked up to the monitors and picked up Abbott's heartbeat right away (that was nice to hear). Everything with him looked pretty good. She had me stay hooked up for about half an hour or so just to watch his activity and sure enough, he perked up and started moving around and getting back to his old self. The nurse said that his lack of movement was probably because he was in a deep sleep (lucky dude) and she said my cramping was more than likely due to dehydration. She sent me on my way and we immediately went to eat dinner, where I drank about 12 glasses of water with my meal. Today has been much different with Abbott's activity level...he's very active today and has actually been causing me some pain because of how much he's moving. I suppose it's all or nothing with this kid. I go to the doctor again tomorrow for a routine check up so I will add what information I can after that appointment.

Doctor Update
Well, it seems as though baby Abbott is just fine and dandy exactly where he is. No progression towards labor since last week. I'm a little bummed because I am so anxious to meet him! I will go back in a week and see what happens then. Since they are expecting him to be so big, I may have to schedule a C-section. In the meantime, I am doing lots of walking during the day to see if this helps. Could be an old wives' tale or it could hold some truth. Only time will tell!

Big babies run in the family......
I went to the doctor yesterday morning and here is the scoop: After the ultrasound to estimate the fetal weight, Abbot is already at approximately 8.5 pounds! I still have 3 weeks to go! The doctor doesn't want to induce because I have not really started to dilate yet so our plan of action is to wait and see what happens and know that a C-section could be an option when he decides to come. I suppose that if he does decide to come early then we know he won't be struggling for weight!
I talked to Mom after my appointment and found out that there are several 9 pounders (and up) that run in the family. I suppose we're just made to birth big ole' babies!
